Day Trip- Outer Banks

So my hubby and I were bored Saturday morning and decided to go to the outer banks area of North Carolina.  We started the trip by heading to the Alligator River National Wildlife Refugehttp://www.fws.gov/alligatorriver/

There is a 'scenic' drive you can take during daylight hours.  I have to say we didn't really see anything, but a local told us that the best time to see the wildlife is early in the morning or right before sunset.
There are also some walking trails that looked interesting, but we were unsure if the weather would hold so we opted to come back another day.

Then we were off to the NC Aquarium on Roanokehttp://www.ncaquariums.com/

Well I am sad to report that it is not something I personally would go out of the way for.  We found it to be small, but it is a good size for small kids.  They are also part of the AZA reciprocity program. (we were able to gain FREE admission with our Zoo membership)

Having said that, this is the perfect time of the year to go and visit the OBX because most of the tourists have gone home so there are no crowds.  WOOHOO!

So get out there and explore whats in your 'back yard'.

Hope you enjoy! :)
