Free - Disney tickets with 1 day of volunteer work

Disney will give a free day of admission starting January 1, 2010 to 1 million people who complete a day of volunteer service. People must register with the parks' Web site before embarking on their day of service, which must be handled and certified by the widely operating HandsOn Network.

The offer is for those aged 18 and older, but since you can't leave the kids home when you go to Disneyland, kids aged 6 to 17 can also get a free ticket for pitching in, too, as long as an adult is with them when they're volunteering. As long as you live in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico, you can take advantage of the offer. Should you already have an annual pass for a Disney resort, you can receive a special Fastpass for up to six people instead, which will help you cut the lines on the most popular attractions. Day Trip- Outer Banks

So my hubby and I were bored Saturday morning and decided to go to the outer banks area of North Carolina.  We started the trip by heading to the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge.  http://www.fws.gov/alligatorriver/

There is a 'scenic' drive you can take during daylight hours.  I have to say we didn't really see anything, but a local told us that the best time to see the wildlife is early in the morning or right before sunset.
There are also some walking trails that looked interesting, but we were unsure if the weather would hold so we opted to come back another day.

Then we were off to the NC Aquarium on Roanoke.  http://www.ncaquariums.com/

Well I am sad to report that it is not something I personally would go out of the way for.  We found it to be small, but it is a good size for small kids.  They are also part of the AZA reciprocity program. (we were able to gain FREE admission with our Zoo membership)

Having said that, this is the perfect time of the year to go and visit the OBX because most of the tourists have gone home so there are no crowds.  WOOHOO!

So get out there and explore whats in your 'back yard'.

Welcome - please read

Welcome to my blog about bargains & entertainment in the greater Hampton Roads area.

I am orig. from upstate NY, moved to CA where I lived for 15 years and moved to the VB area in 2007. Since I am still relatively new to the area I figured I would take you along with me as I search out all of the bargain hotspots & entertainment in my 'new' stomping grounds.

Things you should know:
